Cycling in Évora description

This program is a guided cycling tour in Évora starting in your hotel where we visit 4 selected family owned projects, each one with their special history and unique features.

More than anything else, our focus was to show you places where the owners are deeply engaged and full time present,  where the whole team is treated as family and therefore involved in the project as if was their own, because e this is how they feel it.

Why does this rebound in your visit? All these projects treat visitors as individuals, delivering unrepeatable experiences, each one with an exclusive story-telling, where each single moment is meant not to be forgotten.

Cycling in Évora tour – Taste of Heritage

Program

Riding through secondary roads, we will go from small family farms where little orchards and vegetable gardens are witnesses of a daily lifestyle, to bigger estates with serious agricultural projects.

Our first stop will be at Monte do Serrado de Baixo. This Charming farm is the head office of Turaventur, an outdoor company founded in 1990 by Pedro, Ana and Leonor. Now it’s managed by Teresa, daughter of the first two. At this farm Pedro has his private classic car collection and either him or one of the team members will be delighted to show you around. From Jaguar, to Triumph or Austin Healey, you will find a bit of everything here!

After the visit and a freshly squeezed lemonade, we will start our biking day!

Next stop will be at Fita Preta Wines, located in a medieval property with a 14th century’s palace, recently restored after several years left to abandonment. António Maçanita, an irreverent and acclaimed Portuguese wine maker, and Alexandra, his wife and experienced Event’s planner, are committed to bringing wine experiences to an upper level. Together with a very young and enthusiastic team, besides producing authentic outstanding wines, they are making a difference in the warm hearted and laid-back style in hosting wine lovers at the winery. You will be surprised with the surroundings, the precious palace, the quality of the wines and the hospitality.  Enjoy!

The bike tour continues in the direction of Igrejinha, a village where all houses are white with stripes of different colors, very typical from our local architecture.

Further on you will discover all about Pepe Aromas project located in a centenary and charming train station. Susana and José are brother and sister and started in the agricultural business years ago. Now they decided to open their farm to visitors. There origins were the cork business, and their goal is to make great quality local products, biologic, with local partners and local products. Currently they are working with a new raw material: prickly pears. You can’t imagine the wonders you can do with them! We will keep that as a surprise to be unfolded!

For the end of the day we saved a very special visit: a cork factory. Here we will meet either Mr. Joaquim or his son. This has been their lifestyle for several decades, knowledge being transmitted from grandfather to father to son.  See how cork is transformed and learn about all its usages!

This is a fully serviced trip in a 5 start hotel. It’s a premium tour. If you want a cheaper version it is possible to do the same trip sleeping at our farm and cutting out the car support which is not absolutely necessary because our offices are nearby.

We did the 1-day heritage tour and loved it. The biking was great – 40km through gorgeous countryside. We visited a cork factory, a farm, and a winery, all locally run. We learned tons about cork trees and harvesting cork, helm oak and cock tree acorns and their usages, prickly pear growing and the uses for every component of the cactus, and about native grape varieties.
